SERVER AND HOSTING

Host and server is a computer or other system connected to the network while a server is a software or hardware device delivering services to other networked programs or devices. A computer system consists of a series of linked devices for the communication and sharing of resources. In computer networking the host and the server are two concepts. A host is a device connecting to the Network. It’s also called a node. It could be a device like a desktop computer, a laptop etc. On the other hand, the other computers in the network are supported by a server with various facilities. A file server for instance stores and manages the network files. While a server shares resources and offers services, a host shares and consumes resources.  A host can link via the Internet to other devices, while a server can link to other devices via Local Area Network (LAN) or the Internet.

  • What a Host Is?

A host is a device connecting to the Network. This can be a desktop, laptop, smartphone, etc. The hosting machine includes software which allows it to communicate over the network. Each computer has an Internet Protocol (IP) address in the network. This address assists in defining the computer inside the network. If a device needs to send data to another device, that data travels by checking the destination device’s IP address for the correct designation. The hosts often use hostnames, rather than IP addresses. Domain Name System (DNS) translates the host names to the respective IP addresses in that case.

  • What a Server Is?

A server is a software or hardware device which provides services to other network devices. A client is a computer services receiving software or hardware. A server can connect multiple clients, and multiple servers can be connected via a single client. The client can be run, and the server can either be a different physical device in the same system, or the server.

  • Types of server hosting

  1. Shared hosting

This is where your website is stored on the same server alongside other websites. Since it is a shared hosting plan, the same server resources as CPU and RAM are shared by all domains. This service costs less, making it a very appealing – and accessible – service for entrepreneurs and small business owners, where every penny counts. Shared hosting comes with lots of useful resources, such as WordPress hosting, website builders, and email client ability. One downside to shared hosting is that when you share the server with many websites, the user experience is influenced by usage spikes.

  1. Cloud hosting

This hosting system operates on a network, allowing companies to share computing resources as a service. Cloudbased hosting is flexible, enabling your company to expand over time while just charging for what you’re using.

  1. Managed hosting

The company leases you the hardware and storage space by managed hosting. The hosting company is responsible for the installation and supervision. Managed hosting will save companies on the staffing costs and IT infrastructure maintenance. It’s among the costlier options.
